Of Burnt Sienna Ponies, Pork Verde, Projects + Still Blooming Roses

Our Christmas rose-in-winter miracle has become our late January wonder.
There's something a little odd, but totally fabulous, about having
blooming pink roses at this time of the year!
Truly it's a blessing!

Besides admiring our roses,
I've been on a bit of a cleaning and sorting mission inside the house.

It's also been a trip down "Memory Lane"--
this tin belonged to my mom and was made in England years ago.
I bet some of you can recall the poem that goes with it:)

And this is Pokey and Gumby.
Anyone remember them?
I'll admit I have a thing for horses--
even those that are burnt sienna and don't eat hay :)

I have found there are two major obstacles in this sorting process.
First, many of these inanimate objects hold a lot of sweet memories for me...
of mom,
my grandparents,
childhood,
the kids when they were young,
of--
well a lot of things.

Can I really get rid of them?

Secondly, what if I someday need the item and it costs ten times as much or isn't available?
After all who ever saw food prices rising as much as they have in the last several years?

Sigh. Need to do this...
we just have TOO much stuff that we've accumulated.

Of course,
some items are easier then others...
as I was stuffing my huge collection of rubber stamps into drawers today,
my main thought was a LOT of these have GOT TO GO!

Hopefully I will find more items that I feel that way about--stuff I don't ever use or enjoy anymore.

Back to more pleasant thoughts---
the garden!

Teresa recently posted a photo of her budding daphne.
Of course, that made me wonder about ours which gave me an excuse to get outside for a bit.
I LOVE that the days are getting longer again and that we've had some rather sunny days!
I have been thinking a LOT about spring lately and can hardly wait for more flowers.
I've also been thinking a LOT about how much I need a walk on the beach or up in the mountains...

But there's more work to do before I can play.

As you already know the "G" room is done
and we're working on furnishing it.

My very talented Farmer Boy is working on a project for that room --
one commissioned by his always dreaming, Nordic loving wife and
one which will soon be finished because of his love for a certain Small One.
Dear Hubby has done a lot more on it since this pic was taken--
but can you guess what it is??

Of course, since we don't have a garage or shop, it did require our bed
 to be turned -- temporarily -- into a workbench. Lately it's done a lot of double duty and it may do more as I already have another project in mind:)

Recently our oldest son invited us over for yet another fabulous meal--
this time we enjoyed the most wonderful pork verde and rice ever!
And I would show you a picture but I never got a good one :(

Just close your eyes and imagine tender pork shoulder,
a mixture of peppers,
onions, garlic, tomatillos, cilantro, lime, seasonings...
YUM, there I go making myself hungry again.

While our son was cooking,
 we were entertained by his roommate who was playing one of those
modern interactive games.
All I can say is the video games we played when our kids were young --
games like Donkey Kong, Pac Man and others --
aren't a thing like the ones they have today!

To finish this post here's the WORD for your Wednesday Thursday--

 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.
For he shall be as a tree planteth by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river,
and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green;
and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit,

 Jeremiah 17:7, 8 KJV

Have a GREAT Thursday!

Blessings,
Aimee

Peter, Peter pumpkin eater,
Had a wife but couldn't keep her;
He put her in a pumpkin shell
And there he kept her very well.

Peter, Peter pumpkin eater,
Had another and didn't love her;
Peter learned to read and spell,
And then he loved her very well.

She must have either been a small wife or he had a very large pumpkin. What an odd poem.

Glad to hear the weather is improving where you are. Here in the UK it is freezing. Some places were minus 15 degrees centigrade.

God bless.

A wonderful passage for today- thanks! Our grands brought their xbox over a few weeks ago- it is wireless. It was very entertaining watching the kids stand in front of the tv and climb imaginary walls and throw imaginary bowling balls, and the whole time I was thinking- "Is this what our world has come to? Imaginary activity?" I much prefer the smell of the outdoors, the 3-d ordinary every day trees to a flat screen tv..but I'm just old fashioned I guess. That pork sounds yummy- I hope you share the recipe soon. Have a wonderful day!

Good morning Aimee! It's good to see your post. My goodness, your weather in Oregon must be much warmer than ours to have roses blooming. I'm looking out my window onto snow, snow, snow. I also know what you mean about getting rid of things. I've taken boxes and boxes of stuff to the thrift store this winter and I can't see a dent in all of the "stuff". The care and thank you much for the verse today.
Blessings,
Betsy

Wow, that is a huge Daphne bloom! Mine are coming out more, too.. but are more petite ones. I'm just worried that we'll have another ice and snow storm that will harm what is starting to grow! Hope not!
((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Great to see the guest room coming along well. I'm eager to see the finished project.
The pork verde sounds delicioso!
It's hard for me to get rid of some things, too. I always think I'll need or want the item later.

What a lovely rose! How wonderful it's blooming in January (or should I say Juneuary?) Yeah, I remember Gumby and Pokey. I used to have those toys.

@Victor~
LOL! You made me smile Victor--thanks:) I agree--it is a very odd poem. Perhaps one day I shall research its origins. Yikes. Sorry about your cold weather. Our weather here should be colder but its been a very odd winter already -- not that I am complaining.
Blessings,
Aimee

@Terri~
You are SO welcome! Glad it blessed you today:) I agree with you--I will take nature anytime over video games and TV, but I wasn't always like that--although I do recall enjoying climbing trees when I was younger! I will check with my son if it's OK to share the recipe on here--and get back to you. It truly was yummy! Oh, no--thinking about it has made me hungry again:)
Blessings, Aimee

Betsy~
Thank you! How kind of you to say that:) I know I have been posting less, just seem to have little to say since we've been home so much this late autumn/winter. It has been a warm winter...none of our other roses are blooming, just these. It's very odd--but fantastic! I guess we're not alone Betsy. I know my parents had oodles of stuff too--it took years to sort, maybe my sib is still sorting it. Good luck on your sorting! You are SO welcome--I really loved these verses and it blesses me to know others do too.
Blessings,
Aimee

@Teresa~
It's probably the same size as yours-but it does look big, doesn't it? LOVED the flowers on your most recent post---daffodils always make me happy and I keep looking for some. Yep. I am worried about getting a winter storm in February too and keep reading the extended forecasts on Mark Nelson's blog...I am with you in hoping not although I might have to make a trip to Mt Hood or some place just to enjoy some winter snow:)
Blessings,
Aimee

@Lorrie~
Thank you! I hope you will like the finished project--very Nordic and hopefully something the Small One will like:) Oh--it is, it is--I could eat some every week! Yep. That is a big issue with me--I want to be thrifty and a good steward. I have pretty well decided this will be a first sorting and then I'll have to revisit this later.
Blessings,
AImee

@Linda!
I think so too! It's such a pretty pink! Yep, definitely Juneuary:):) I think these two must have belonged to our kids, but am not sure. How cool about you having them when you were younger!
Blessings,
Aimee

@Bethany~
Glad you enjoyed the rose! I just realized today that the roses on the south side of our home never lost their leaves. Strange winter! I agree--like those verses :)
Blessings,
Aimee
