Wonderful Peace

The other day in the wee hours of the morning I was sitting on the sofa half-listening to the TV while on my computer. All of a sudden I heard some rather distressing news; it was upsetting and I began to pray about this matter I could do nothing about and then the answer came--in a rather unexpected way--moments after I finished the prayer.

The words of a song I had not heard for years, and certainly was not thinking about came to my mind clearly and quickly. It was the lyrics to the old hymn "Wonderful Peace" and was exactly what I needed at the moment.

Far away in the depths of my spirit tonight
Rolls a melody sweeter than psalm;
In a celestial strains it unceasingly falls
O’er my soul like an infinite calm.

Peace, peace, wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray
In fathomless billows of love!

What a treasure I have in this wonderful peace
Buried deep in the heart of my soul,
So secure that no power can mine it away.
While the years of eternity roll!

I’m resting tonight in this wonderful peace,
Resting sweetly in Jesus’ control;
For I’m kept from all danger by night and by day
And His glory is flooding my soul!

You never know what God will use to answer the earnest prayer of one of His children---sometimes it is a friend calling with words of support, at other times it is a verse from His Holy Word and on occasion (especially lately) it has been words of hymns written ages ago and learned by this writer as a young child.

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." Isaiah 26:3 KJV

Blessings & Peace,

Aimee

Words of hymns also bring comfort to me in trying (as well as in happy) times. Thanks for sharing the words of this hymn. I've never heard it before.

Thanks for your comment! It is kind of amazing how a hymn that comforted people so many years ago, still brings comfort to us today. Though so much has changed; so much is still the same about life.
Blessings, Aimee
PS: Another good one that has been 'playing' through my mind lately is "Blessed Assurance". http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/b/l/e/blesseda.htm
