Giving Thanks Down By The Riverside

Difficult challenges in life can make you sad, depressed, hopeless, angry and bitter
(been there; done that)
Or they can make you think of all the things in life you are truly and completely grateful for...
kind bloggers,
sunny days,
a pumpkin pie tempting me from our fridge right now,
a sandy beach during HIGH surf,
and...

a certain lovely river and some of its feathered inhabitants.
Ah, yes. It is THE season for a bird lover like me:)

Just like my feathered friends at the beach,
the feathered friends here by the riverside make me smile...

cause me to admire their beauty and grace as they float with the current
or swim against it.

And their unique characteristics cause me to be filled with joy and a deep sense of wonder!

I may not like the rain of autumn
(though I am very grateful for it after months of drought),
I may not like the cold
(though there is no snow without it and I LOVE snow).
And I may hate the decrease in daylight hours...
but I look forward each autumn to seeing some of the feathered ones
who only visit us at this time of the year.

So, in my little unofficial beauty contest here,
which of the feathered ones is your favorite?

So many to choose from--
ducks, Canadian geese, pigeons, gulls...

I can't choose.
I LOVE them all!

Wishing you all a very blessed and joy-filled Thanksgiving no matter where you live.

Blessings,
Aimee

Happy Thanksgiving to you too dear Amiee. I hope you have a wonderful day, filled with countlessblessings. It's a quiet day here today with just Dennis and I. We are missing our family something terrible. But I also know how blessed we are to have a warm cozy home and electricity. Lovely, lovely electricity. There are many here in Spokane and still don't don't have it. I love the pictures of all your birds. They're beautiful.
Blessings, Betsy

Great photos! My husband loves ducks because of their ability to fly and be free. :-) He's always enjoyed watching them take off from the water. Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you had a wonderful day.

Blessings,
Jill

lovely bird photos. Yes, I'm thankful for the rain we've had recently. It's so nice to see the snow on Mt. Hood again! On a clear day I can see it as I drive from my house! Awesome! I like the bird that's got it's back turned and it's blue...I think...I can't go back to see it....lovely the bird song .....always. Have a blessed weekend!

I hope you've had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Aimee. Your birds are all so interesting and each variety is unique so it would be hard to choose a favorite. Great photos.

To Victor, Linda, Terri, Betsy, Teresa, Jill, Becky and Lorrie,
Having some problems with blogger or ? freezing so I am going to leave one comment and cross my fingers it'll post:)
Thank you ALL for your kind comments and wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving/weekend! I do hope, for my American visitors, that your Thanksgiving was also good:) We had a low key, simple dinner--but with most of the traditional foods--due to my hubby having a nasty cold and all our kids being out of state.
@ Victor--it is my pleasure to be able to visit your blog. We both definitely share a desire to walk with God!
@Terri--nice to hear from you! Have a great Friday!
@ Jill---I love ducks too! In fact, one of my special memories is of several duck visitors to our man-made pond. Now that was awesome! For @ Becky--pigeons are quite pretty so I can see how you would like them:)You are SO lucky to see Mt. Hood from your area...it's a beautiful mountain!
@Linda--you would have loved the beautiful autumn colors there--I was excited to find leaves on the trees still:)
@ Betsy--I sincerely hope ALL of Spokane's residents soon have power. It is SO cold at night right now...We also miss our family, so I feel your pain.
@ Teresa---the park isn't too far from where you live and we traveled on up to Jonsrud Viewpoint afterwards so I could get a closer view of lovely Mt. Hood. There are two areas at Clackamette Park--the ducks, geese, etc. like to "hang out" on the Clackamas River side.
@Lorrie--I am with you! They all have their beauty:)
Blessings to all!

Thank you Aimee for posting such a visual treat of a post! I loved seeing the birds you have been seeing lately and can't pick a favorite. We had a special Thanksgiving celebration with new baby Sarah in our household, but relatively quiet since she is so new :) I am sorry that your husband is unwell and that your children are all out of state. I got to face time with my oldest son's family yesterday and was amazed to note again how much my grandsons have grown since I visited them last Fall. I'm hoping your husband feels well soon and that you have a Happy Thanksgiving Weekend. xx

@Gracie~
You are so welcome! I am glad you enjoyed seeing the birds of Clackamette Park:) It's always a treat to spend time with them! Definitely a special Thanksgiving when you have a new little one! Hubby is filling a bit better today (thank God!). LOL--those grandkids seem to grow faster with every passing month, don't they?
Have a great weekend!
Blessings,
Aimee

Beautiful photos Aimee! I'm glad you find joy in spotting your feathered friends. This looks like a beautiful part of our world. I'm coming up for air after making our little family Thanksgiving meal today. Hope you have a good week ahead!

Aimee, I hope you had a wonderful family Thanksgiving! We were with family for this Holiday, but we are leaving this week for Florida. I will be glad to be warm, but sad to be leaving family. But I'm used to mixed feelings after all these years. I love all your birds, but the ducks are my favorites.

@Sallie~
Thanks! Thanksgiving was ok--just us two. I understand the mixed feelings...safe travels southward! Looking forward to seeing your warm weather photos:) The ducks were really neat--I was happy to see such a variety!
Blessings,
Aimee
