That's History: A Certain Burger Family + The House That is No More

Yep, I recall those days.
The days of the Burger Family.

May 2012
Cold frosty glass mugs filled with yummy root beer...
Hot burgers of varying sizes with familiar names...
Yep, I remember.
Do you?

Found this bit of history on a drive through Hillsboro some years ago
(as opposed to a drive-thru...) LOL
Kind of makes me hungry for a baby burger, a float and maybe, just maybe, some French fries.
Good thing the Farmer Boy is asleep and I hate driving at night.
Oh well...

Another memory from the past some  might be familiar with is this building found on Highway 47...

2013
 for years it has stood (well more or less stood) near Forest Grove.
We always looked for it and I think my parents had an ongoing joke that it
would be their retirement home someday.
It probably was quite nice in its time
(I have a thing for old houses).

2014
A fairly well known landmark,
over time wind, storms, rain, age and more took its toll.
You could see its days were numbered...

Then, very early this year,
when traveling through the area,
 I noticed something was very, very wrong!

2015
Oh, oh.

Sadly I didn't get a photo then...
but next trip through I snapped several.

I shall miss her.
The area just doesn't seem the same.

BTW, because I always, always just HAVE to know
(always)
this was the Heesacker house and
you can find a couple of interesting articles on its history on Oregon Live.
The first is from July 2013 and the second is from autumn of 2014 shortly after she collapsed.

 Well that's all on history for the blog tonight.
Now it's time to work on my family history.

Blessings,
Aimee

Now I'm getting hungry too! Fun burger family! Neat to see and read about the Heesacker place. There are a few homes like that around here. Always sad to see them go.

I, too, love old houses and barns. We used to keep watch over several during my childhood in Nebraska on the drive to and from my grandparents house. Sadly, many of them are now gone too. Collapsed from wind storms and tornadoes. I'm such a lover of history, especially pioneer history, that I find myself putting people in these homes in my imagination and wonder what they were like.
Thanks for sharing Aimee.
Blessings,
Betsy

Always sad to see old building fall into disrepair. I love the hamburger family and saw them on a recent trip through Hillsboro.

I find this so interesting as I have always loved old homes and their history and stories. Especially when abandoned and you have to wonder, what happened? What was the family like that lived there? I used to take photos and create stories about them of my own. Always fascinated with history! Thank you for sharing.

Blessings,
Jill

Sad to see that old house fall down. I have been watching the Latourell House deteriorate and it makes me mad that the family let it happen as it's a neat old house. I've never seen or heard of that burger family. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

@Bethany~
Happy June to you! Yes. I was quite surprised to find the "family" several years ago:) I agree--so many are demolished or just let go...
Blessings, Aimee

@Betsy~
Yea! Another historic building lover:) It was nice to find some information on the house...made the house more than just a deserted building.
Hope you are having a great time with Miss Piper and company:)
Blessings, Aimee

@LInda~
Agreed. One of the homes I lived in had parts of old buildings--stained glass windows and old barn beams. At least they tried to save our past. I love them too:) Somewhere I still have a glass baby root beer mug and teddy bear (I think). Sweet memories!
Blessings, Aimee

@Jill~
So glad you enjoyed my post! I have a thing for old homes, schoolhouses, churches and barns especially. I bet your stories are awesome! That's a great idea:)
Blessings, Aimee

@Teresa~
It sure is. I wish someone would have kept it up...would love to have seen it in its prime! Sigh. So sad about the Latourell House--another piece of our history that we're losing all too fast.
Happy to introduce you to the A + W Burger Family:)
Blessings, Aimee

Amazing how old photographs bring back memories; mostly fond ones.

Hope you are keeping well.

God bless.

I love old houses too, and it's always cool to hear the history because you usually don't ever find out. I've been staying up lately over at lds, spending entirely too much time on the un-indexed county records.

@victor~
That they do--all fond ones as of late:)
Blessings to you + yours!
Aimee

@Terri~
I like finding the history too...I think all family history people, like you and I, want to know more than just names and dates. LOL. I hear you! I've had to force myself to get off the genealogy sites as midnight and my family history files by 1:00 Am to be able to get any work done the next day:)
BLessings,
Aimee

I love old decrepit houses and farms and buildings ... Well, I don't really love that they have gone to ruin but I love to take pictures and wonder about the story ... And history. But I don't do as good a job as you did on finding out. Good work, very interesting and wonderful pictures. And now I am going out to buy some root beer, for which I suddenly have a craving for some reason )))

Yea! Another old house, farm, building lover:) I am a pretty determined researcher of history...some might call me stubborn (LOL). This, fortunately, was a fairly easy find.
Blessings,
AImee
PS: LOL--your comment about root beer cravings made me giggle!
