Answering The Call Of The Cove

This past weekend brought two lovelies into my life--
the first was a predicted negative low tide in several places;
the second was a certain lovely Small One who came to spend the weekend.
With that winning combination, it was a given we'd be exploring tidepools somewhere...
and, after some research I knew just which beach.

It was a beach from my childhood.
A beach with a pretty little creek that flows into the sea,
a lovely little cove and tidepools!

And as luck would have it, we arrived to some very lovely fog which made it all the more magical!

With high temperatures forecasted for the valley,
and this being a popular state park, I expected crowds.
Surprisingly, the parking lot was nearly empty.
Woohoo!
My thanks to the following for the lovely almost empty parking lot:
the Goonie Festival (Astoria)
and the Rose Festival (Portland),
the forecast of lovely fog,
those who love to sleep in on the weekends
and
the wonderful timing for the negative low tide.
Thank YOU, thank you all!

The north part of the beach was a different world--
a lovely rocky world with...

fossils

colorful agates and assorted pebbles

caves

and sea life.

I LOVED it.
I loved it a lot...
even after I slipped on a rock right into a tidepool I still loved it!
Even with an ankle that's still a bit sore and a scrapped up face,
I STILL loved it!

And I will...

I WILL be back.
After all, my camera survived the fall:)

Blessings,
Aimee

Oh what fun Aimee! I'm very sorry you slipped and fell, but the coast is so magical in Oregon and it doesn't seem to have dimmed your love for it at all. A friend was going to go whale watching last weekend but didn't go because of the fog. Another "thank you" for you. :-). Hubby and I definitely need to make a trip over that way before winter sets in. It's been too long since we walked ion the beach in our favorite Lincoln City and had clam chowder at Mo's. I so enjoy your beach posts.
Blessings,
Betsy

A perfect way to spend a hot weekend! Wish I would've gone to the coast too but had things going on at home. Maybe next weekend....Loved all your photos and glad you got to spend some time with your beloved granddaughter.

@Betsy~
It really was!! I think it will be my new favorite central coast beach for awhile:) So happy my pix were enjoyable to see! Thanks! Yea, clumsy me...hope my foot/ankle/leg is better by this weekend. I really hope you can make it down to the coast as I know you really love it...and the Mo's clam chowder is still good. Hubby had some this past Saturday:)
Blessings,
Aimee

@Linda~
Thanks! Hope you are able to spend some time at the coast soon...and find the beaches as quiet as we did (so much easier to take photos--LOL).
Blessings,
Aimee

Hi Aimee, oh gosh. I hope that you're all healed up. A sprained ankle can be painful and now you'll need to be extra careful that you don't re-injure it on your next outing. Thank you for taking us along. We enjoy the beautiful photos that you take.

Thanks! I am so happy you enjoy all of our little adventures here (mostly) in the PNW! It was an incredible blessing to have the beaches so empty...of course, later on in the day the crowds arrived:) I am thankful I didn't (I think) break anything--and that my camera survived!
Blessings,
Aimee

@Sammy~
My ankle/foot/leg was hurting earlier today but now seems a bit better--thanks:) Yep. I have to figure out how I can go tidepooling without falling...
It was fun to take you along -- you would enjoy it there Sam.
Blessings,
Aimee

@Teresa~
Thanks! Me too--it was quite the shock but could have been SO much worse (for both my camera and I--teehee). I think Small One enjoyed the beach--that is until she got cold and just wanted to leave. Next time--long pants or leggings and a jacket are coming with us:)
Blessings,
Aimee

You know how much I love this. And that I would choose your day over any of those alternatives any time! The tide pool photos are fabulous . And I'm glad your camera didn't fall in when you slipped ))). (Not to sound heartless, but I've survived many a slip and slide while tidepooling and I know exactly what you mean when you say you still loved it. Thanks as always for the taste of home!

@Sallie~
We definitely think alike on choices for a fun day! After all, even though I am a Goonies fan, I have photos already of the Goonies house:) And I've done the Rose Festival thing too--albeit from a boat on the Willamette (where we saw things most festival goers don't see! Yikes!). Happy to hear you enjoyed the tidepool photos. I wanted to go further out onto the rocks, but was too scared to. Ah, my camera...it did get a little wet, but I just kept drying it off and hoping for the best. May have said a prayer too.
Blessings, Aimee

Didn't take your comment as heartless at ALL!! Knew exactly what YOU meant--I am ALREADY eager to get back out there:) Like I said, we think alike on being out in nature:):)

I read this post a bit earlier but didn't have time to comment. Hope you are healing up ok. Falling on the beach rocks is no fun. I've turned my feet on them numerous times. Your photos are lovely. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed week!

@Becky~
Thanks for coming back to leave a comment Becky--I appreciate it a great deal! I see I am not alone in falling on the rocks...today I checked out footwear that they recommend. Not so sure it would help. Wish I was a mountain goat like my dear hubby who can walk on jetties and anything else:) Glad you liked the photos Becky. Still hoping that you and your hubby are able to make a whale watching trip soon.
Blessings,
Aimee

Ouch! The fall does not sound like fun, but I am glad you (and your camera) are ok. This looks like such a beautiful spot, and it must be even more special with the memories you have there. I wish I could explore it with you. Love the first photo especially! Blessings to you!

It wasn't but I have fully recovered now and am ready for another adventure:) Oh, I wish you could see that beach in person--it is glorious at low tide and with a bit of fog. Thank you--that first photo is my current wallpaper (laptop). It just speaks to me of peace and the wonder of God's creation!
Have a great Friday Bethany!

Aimee
